Some festivals are well known in the State or territory that holds them. Then there are some that garner coast to coast fame. This next festival gathers people from all around the world. We are talking about the "Virgin Fest" or if you really need the full name, "Virgin Mobile Festival 2008!" Hosted in Baltimore, Maryland at the Pimlico Race Course (This area is also known for the Preakness Stakes), this festival really has the space to spread out and be huge, of which it takes full advantage. This is one of the few festivals where they opened up a previously closed building during the show to allow concert goers to have access to dozens of indoor bathrooms. Anyone who has ever been to a festival knows how important not having to wait in line can be, especially after that third or seventh trip to the beer garden.
So what should you expect from Virgin Fest 2008? Well, the partners are Playstation, Kyocera and Bud Light, so expect games, cool handheld devices, and sweet, tasty beer. Another thing about Virgin fest is the sacrificing of the Virgin. In 2007, Virgin Fest workers created a huge, approximately 40 foot dummy filled with fake blood. At the end of the festival, robot experts manipulated gas powered, killing machines to tear the Virgin apart and spray several dozens of gallons of stage blood onto the ground.
Other attractions tend to be the free water-refilling stations (the event takes place in August on the 9th & 10th in Baltimore, Maryland… expect heat), misting stations, performance artists, many different tents including a massage tent in the recharging station, and two stages to run back and forth between.
80,000 people attended this show last year over the two days it ran in Baltimore. Although ticket prices were totaling close to $100 per a ticket, it was reportedly a sold out event.
Artists to look forward to seeing on this major, two-day event include Wilco (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot album), Jack Johnson ("If I Had Eyes", "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing", "Flake"), Kanye West ("Good Life", "Stronger", "Gold Digger"), Stone Temple Pilots ("Big Bang Baby", "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart", "Days of the Week"), Nine Inch Nails or NIN (Ghosts I-IV, "Perfect Drug", "Only"), and the Foo Fighters ("The Pretender", "Long Road to Ruin", "My Hero"). Expect more to be added, though, in the upcoming weeks.
